Reviewed: Politics "Cunningham" Baggy Cargo Denim
Share
This is the largest silhouette we carry, and it is not subtle about it. Eight pockets, snap flaps, drawstring hems and enough fabric through the leg to break three times over a sneaker.
A note on the colour
Politics calls this colourway Dark Vintage Blue Wash, and that is accurate about the denim underneath — but it is not what you see. The overdye is a dirty tobacco-tan that covers most of the leg, with the indigo showing through at the cuff turn-up, along the seams and wherever the wash has been rubbed thin. Read it as a tan pant with blue underneath, not a blue pant.
We have titled it Tobacco Overdye for that reason. We would rather tell you than have the box surprise you.
The cut
Baggy from the hip down with no taper, cargo pockets stacked on both thighs and again lower on the leg, and drawstrings at the hem you can cinch or leave loose. Cinched, it blouses over the shoe like a parachute pant. Loose, it stacks and pools.
The waist sits at the natural waist, not on the hip, which is what stops the whole thing from sliding down under the weight of the pockets — and there is real weight in this fabric.
Sizing
Take your true waist. The leg is enormous by design and going up a size does not make it baggier in a good way, it makes the rise wrong. Nine sizes here, 30 through 44.
Length is generous. If you are under 5'10" expect serious stacking, which is the intent.
Who it's for
Someone building a fit around the bottom half. This needs a fitted or boxy top and a clean shoe — put a loud tee and a chunky sneaker with it and there is nowhere for the eye to rest. Wear it with a plain black tee and let the pant be the whole outfit.
9 sizes. $169.99.
