Two-tone fitted caps are harder to get right than solid ones. The colour break draws a hard line across the middle of the cap, and if either colour is slightly off the whole thing looks cheap. The Knicks 2Tone gets it right, which is most of the reason it sells.

The colours

Royal and orange is a difficult pairing — go a shade warm on the blue and it turns purple, go bright on the orange and it turns traffic-cone. This one holds a true royal and a burnt orange, which is why the two sit together instead of fighting.

The embroidery is raised rather than flat, so the wordmark catches light and reads from a distance. The basketball behind it is worked in the same orange as the brim, which ties the two halves of the cap together.

The build

Standard 59FIFTY construction: structured six-panel crown, flat brim, embroidered eyelets and a taped seam inside. It stands up on its own out of the box and stays that way. The rear panel carries the NBA logoman.

Wearing it

Two-tone is louder than it looks. The orange brim is a horizontal band right at eye level, so it competes with anything busy on the top half. Keep the shirt plain and let the cap be the colour in the fit.
