Stacked denim is one of those terms that gets used loosely. Here is what it actually means: the leg is cut several inches longer than your inseam so the excess gathers in folds above the shoe, deliberately, instead of breaking once and sitting flat.

The wash

A warm sand-tan overdye laid over blue denim, uneven on purpose, with the indigo showing through strongest at the knee and along the thigh. It reads dusty rather than clean — closer to a workwear tan than a fashion beige.

Because the tint is warm, this sits better with cream, brown, olive and gold than it does with cool greys and true blacks. Worth knowing before you build a fit around it.

The stack

Slim through the thigh and knee, then long. On most people the excess makes three or four folds over the shoe. It looks intentional on a low-top or a mid; it fights a high-top, because you end up with fabric bunched against a collar that is already tall.

If you are over 6'2" you may find it breaks rather than stacks, which is not a fault — it is just your inseam meeting a pattern cut for someone shorter.

Sizing

True to waist, nine sizes, 30 through 44. Do not size up hoping for more stack; you will get a loose seat and the same length.

Cut long on purpose. The extra length concertinas above the shoe instead of breaking once.

Who it's for

Someone whose shoes are worth showing but who wants the leg to have some drama. The warm tone makes it a natural with tan and brown work boots or a cream sneaker. If your rotation is all black and grey, the sand will sit awkwardly and you would be better served by a black stacked pair.

9 sizes. $89.99.
