Most team caps get the shape right and the colour wrong. Detroit is the test case, because Honolulu Blue is not navy, it is not royal, and every brand that guesses lands somewhere between the two and hopes nobody notices. This one is the actual shade.
The design
The leaping lion is stitched as a clean white outline — the body of the lion stays Honolulu Blue, only the contour is picked out. That is a smarter piece of design than a solid-fill logo. A filled patch sits on the crown like a sticker; an outline lets the blue run straight through the middle of the mark, so the cap reads as one block of colour first and a Lions cap a half-second later.
Structured six-panel, flat brim, standard 59FIFTY proportions. The structure matters more than people give it credit for: an unstructured crown collapses into the shape of your head, a structured one keeps its own silhouette and sits on you rather than around you.
Sizing
Fitted caps are fitted, which means the size is not a suggestion. This runs 6 7/8 through 8 — a genuinely complete run, not the 7 1/4-to-7 5/8 window a lot of shops stop at.
If you have never measured: a tape around your head just above the ears, level, snug but not pulled. Most adults land between 7 and 7 1/2. If you are between two sizes, take the larger — New Era wool gives a little with wear, and a fitted that is genuinely too tight leaves a mark on your forehead and you will stop reaching for it.
What it goes with
This is a quiet piece, and that makes it useful. Tonal stitching means it does not compete, so it will sit under a loud graphic tee or a rhinestoned jean without two things fighting for the same job. The rule we build every fit on is one hero per outfit — if the cap is quiet, something else gets to talk.
The blue is specific enough to be worth answering, though. Anything in the same family reads deliberate rather than accidental: a washed indigo denim, or a piece carrying blue as an accent rather than as its main colour. A shared accent always looks more considered than a shared primary.
Who it's for
Anyone who wants a fitted that works as a colour rather than as a billboard. If you want the logo doing the heavy lifting, there are contrast-stitched caps that do that job better. If you want a cap you can put on with anything, this is the one.
