Two-tone caps exist to solve a specific problem: a solid cap has to match something in your outfit, and a two-tone has two chances.

The combination

Heather grey crown, black flat brim, black LA monogram on the front, black batterman on the back. The grey is a true heather with texture in it rather than a flat cement grey, which is what stops the cap looking like a blank.

The LA monogram is the other reason this sells. Interlocked L and A, no team name, no city — it is one of maybe four sports logos that people wear with no reference to the sport at all.

What it goes with

The black brim gives you a hard line that ties to black denim, a black tee or black sneakers. The grey crown does the same for washed denim, cement-grey sneakers and anything in the light-blue family. In practice this is the cap that works when a solid black one would be too heavy on top of a light outfit.

Who it's for
